First Eucharist

In our First Holy Communion (or First Holy Eucharist) preparation program, our goal is to help the children understand that they are being invited to the Lord's Table for the first time to receive the True Body and Blood of Jesus.  Through our Baptism we are members of the Catholic Church; we are followers of Jesus.  We want the children to recognize that Jesus told us at he Last Supper to participate in this Sacred Meal to remember His Sacrifice and to nourish us so we can be His disciples in the world.  The celebration of the Eucharist is the foundation of our faith, and our Catholic teachings tell us we need to do this at least every Sunday.  We strive to help the children come to a better understanding and a deeper love of Mass.  This understanding and love is strengthened by the family attending Mass regularly.

Preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion usually happens when a child is in second grade.  The preparation begins in January and children will participate in the Sacrament in May.  Classes are held on Wednesdays at 4:30 pm.  There are additional Parent Meetings, a Parent & Child Workshop, and a First Communion Mini-Retreat that parents and children are expected to attend.

Registration for this program is available in mid-August.

Please Note: A child must prepare for and receive the Sacrament of First Reconciliation PRIOR to participating in the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.
