Capital Campaign update

Capital Campaign Update - October 15, 2014

The Archdiocese has given its final approval for construction of the addition to our church! Thanks to your generosity, we will break ground in April for the new space.

The expansion will be built on the north side of the current structure, adding much-needed classroom and education space; a new north entrance and elevator to improve accessibility to the building; and expanded parking.

A model of the new addition and the floor plan are on display outside the parish office. We still welcome more contributions to furnish the new space and to pay down the mortgage.

The need for more classroom space is great, because our faith formation programs have grown considerably over the past years.  With the increase in numbers and activities, we have faced new challenges in a building that has not changed since the early 1980s.

Did you know:

  • There were 275 children in last year’s faith formation program, plus 75 children in 1st Eucharist class, plus another 125 children that attend summer faith formation?
  • There were 280 youth in the junior/senior high program including Confirmation?
  • That on Wednesday evenings, youth groups meet in the worship space, sacristy, the office and any floor space we can find to fit them? Sometimes groups meet in closets because it’s the only quiet space they can find.
  • Some programs like baptism prep and Family Fun Nights had to be cancelled last year due to space conflicts?
  • Faith formation groups meet only about 20 times a year because of lack of space?

If we had more space:

  • We could offer more family activities, parent programs, discussion groups, service events, and sacramental programs.
  •  We could enlarge our elementary programs and have more children at a session.
  •  We could offer more Sunday faith formation classes, including a pre-school program.
  •  We could offer more Sunday morning parish events, like parent groups during faith formation, pancake breakfasts and other programs.
  •  We could open the building to more community events, like Scout meetings and community fundraisers.
  •  We could open the sacristy and worship space to Wednesday groups for prayer.
  •  We could offer more on-site youth events and retreats keeping down expenses.
